How come every movie is so goddamn long nowadays? Every time I'm interested in a new movie the runtime is well over two hours. Sometimes three. Why? I have no interest in sitting that long in a cinema and usually it gets boring as hell after 100 minutes or so. 90 minutes is the ideal length for a movie. Lörs?

i'd personally like moves to last even longer. theory: dumbification media(instagram/tiktok) probably affected your attention span.

>>125769 Not really. Many classic movies were around the 90 minute mark. And I think that is for a good reason. Psycho, 109 minutes Dr Strangelove, 93 minutes Aguirre, 94 minutes Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 83 minutes Reservoir Dogs, 99 minutes Of course there are longer movies that are very good, too. But if you go well beyond the 2 hour mark, near 3 hours, there really needs to be good pacing and content worthwhile watching. Sadly, in my personal experience going to cinema in the last few years, that is often not the case. And it's different in cinema compared to watching at home, too. Because you're already there, standing in line, waiting, then watching ads and stuff for about half an hour to an hour and then you can't take a break to go to the toilet or something.

I have just done a quick survey of the 1000 Greatest Films (https://theyshootpictures.com/gf1000_all1000films_table.php). The average length of the movies on that list is 117,9 minutes. So just under two hours.

>>125774 ... The average length of the Top 25 is 118,9 minutes. Although it has to be said that there are some real outliers on that list. The 1980 West German movie Berlin Alexanderplatz is 894 minutes long and some very short ones are on there, too. For example 1902 French Classic La Voyage dans la Lune with just 14 minutes. So I decided to take out the 10 shortest and 10 longest ones from the list and then see the average of the rest. It's 114,7 minutes.

You should see the picrelated (or rather not). It's ten hours of director wanking to himself. It's so pretentious it's like a self-parody, a trolling aimed at audience.

Have you seen the original Lynch Dune? The newest one is better cut than his, but lacks the intricate plot details we saw included to build the universe and explain the politics too complex for the fruit fly attention span zoomers and millennials. Even the fan edit of Lynch's Dune is 2h25 minutes and worth a watch.
Norway Bernd 2021-10-30 14:06:14 ⋅ 2y No. 125800
By that logic films should be 10 minutes or less to accommodate zoomers
Germany Bernd 2021-10-30 14:07:19 ⋅ 2y No. 125802
>>125800 BS. I just want movies to be 90-120 minutes again instead of 3 hours and beyond.
